Our Team
Dr. Melissa Card is a registered psychologist who earned her MA in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and her Doctorate from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. She seamlessly merges over a decade of academic expertise as an associate professor in higher education with extensive clinical acumen garnered from running her private practice in South Africa. With a wealth of experience in both realms, Dr. Card offers insights and compassionate care to her clients, empowering them to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and confidence.
Dr. Card is versed in several therapeutic approaches and works collaboratively with her clients to find the best fit for their therapeutic journey. She has experience in working with eating disorders and body-related concerns, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and grief and loss, in adolescents and adults (including seniors).
Dr. Card has clinical experience working with first responders (police officers, paramedics, firefighters and 9-1-1 operators). Using trauma-informed practices, Dr. Card provides mental health support and counselling services tailored to the unique needs of first responders. Her expertise in stress management, PTSD treatment, and resilience training equips her to address the challenges faced by those in high-pressure professions. Dr. Card is dedicated to promoting the well-being and mental health of those who serve and protect our communities, offering a compassionate and confidential space for individuals to process their experiences and build healthy coping mechanisms.
She also has a special interest in working with individuals with eating, body weight, shape and self-esteem related concerns.
Dr. Card prefers to work in a longer-term therapeutic modality and provides treatment for a range of mental health difficulties using evidence-based approaches including, dialectic behavioural, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioural techniques as well as psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Dr. Card is respectful and sensitive to the needs and opinions of different cultures, religions, and sexual orientations. She believes in creating space in the therapeutic environment that allows for empowerment, growth and change for clients.
