Melissa Card is a psychologist under supervised practice who earned her MA in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and her Doctorate from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. She has over a decade of teaching and training experience in higher education, in South Africa, where she was an associate professor of psychology at the University of Johannesburg.
Dr. Card is versed in a number of different therapeutic approaches and works collaboratively with her clients to find the best fit on their therapeutic journey. She has extensive experience in working with eating disorders and body related concerns, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and grief and loss, in adolescents, adults (including seniors) and families. Melissa has a special interest in working with individuals who have eating, body weight, shape and self-esteem related concerns.
Dr. Card prefers to work in a longer term therapeutic process and provides treatment for a range of mental health difficulties using evidence-based approaches including psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectic behavioural techniques, mindfulness and cognitive behavioural techniques.
Dr. Card is respectful and sensitive to the needs and opinions of different cultures, religions, and sexual orientations. She believes in creating space in the therapeutic environment that allows for empowerment, growth and change for clients.
